With storms hitting the northeastern part of the United States this weekend, more than 1,000 flights trying to get in and out of the region have been canceled.

According to the flight tracking website FlightAware, more than 1,160 flights into and out of the U.S. were canceled as a result of the weather on Sunday afternoon. More than 350 of them were scheduled to arrive or depart from Newark Liberty International Airport.

New Jersey isn’t the only state to have issues at its airport, as New York’s JFK and LaGuardia airports have also had issues, with the Federal Aviation Administration sharing that all three airports have had ground stops due to the weather.

Thunderstorms have battered New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Pennsylvania all weekend, with heavy rainfall causing flooding in some parts of the states.

Now, travelers are being asked to check with their airlines for updates on their flights before they head to the airport, as they could face long delays or cancellations.

Other parts of the Mid-Atlantic also seeing heavy amounts of rain include West Virginia and Virginia.

Rain in New York and Connecticut is so strong flash flood warnings have been issued for parts of the state, the National Weather Service shared.

The National Weather Service also issued a tornado watch in parts of Connecticut, Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, and New York. Hail could also be seen in the region, with potentially topping out at around 60 miles per hour.
