The $21 million project of the road, long plagued due to years of neglect due to ongoing disputes between the state and Seneca Nation, completed a month early according to the Thruway Authority’s Executive Director, Matt Driscoll.

“This is actually the first major construction that’s taken place in this section since 2003 and 2004,” Driscoll said. “This project was far overdue for sure.”

In addition to the road being built, the Thruway Authority also upgraded the infrastructure such as drainage, new guiderails, striping, and more.

“I think, more importantly, what it sets is a template for the future,” Driscoll said of the agreement. “We all worked together and came up with a template that I think is a good guiding document for future work when required on the thruway as it traverses through the territory.”
