Paul McCartney slams civil liberties argument against masks: 'No. That is stupid.'

The legend looks forward to brighter days of playing live music again

During an interview with CBS Sunday Morning Paul McCartney spoke up about his stance on face masks.

The rockstar tells journalist Seth Doane, “When people sort of say, ‘Wearing masks is infringing on my civil liberties,’ I say, ‘No. That is stupid.’”

McCartney has just released his most recent album McCartney III and his interview with Doane was one of the first and only in-person interviews he’s done to promote the new album.

During his interview, McCartney touches upon his feelings about John Lennon and tells viewers that he believes were Lennon still alive he’d still be writing music today. Paul still finds it “difficult” to process the shooting of Lennon, even after 40 years have passed since the fatal incident. “It’s very difficult for me. I occasionally will have thoughts: why don’t I just break down crying every day? Because it’s that bad. There will be times when I have memories and think, oh my god. It was so senseless,” explains McCartney.

McCartney III, which debuted last week, was recorded during lockdown. Paul cheekily refers to the time as “rockdown.”

Set to headline Glastonbury in 2021, the singer is hesitant to feel locked into the event, reminding us all that a festival of that stature has all the components to be a “super-spreader” event. He told The Sun, “People have started to find ways [of live performing] with Zoom and with socially distanced things…. But I’ll be glad when we can get back – it will be a nice change to actually play to some people.”
