(KMOX) - Money slowly begain trickling into a Michigan police station after about $30,000 was spilled onto highway last week.
Good samaritans have been following the pleas by the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety and not following the rules of finders keepers.
The man told police he "inadvertently left the box on the bumper of his truck," and authorities had to close the road to traffic because people were gathering to search for bills around the stretch of highway. Police themselves collected more than $2,500.
And others have followed their lead over the past few days, as a couple of teenagers turned in $630 and another woman turned in $3,880.
