BETHALTO, Ill. (KMOX) — The Bethalto Community Unit School District #8 is warning parents their kids will be fined and sentenced to community service if they're caught with e-cigarettes on school grounds.
School Resource Officer Brock Cato posted the video message on social media, which you can watch above. He says teachers at the high school are finding students with e-cigarettes "almost everyday" and it's an "epidemic."
The punishment for being caught with an e-cig on Bethalto school grounds the first time is a $50 fine and 24 hours of community service. It's $75 and 50 hours for the second offense, and $200 and 50 hours for the third.
Cato says he's not looking to write everyone up -- but he says you will eventually get caught if you bring a vape pen on campus.
