St. Louis, MO (KMOX) - There's a new warning about problems with EpiPens. The devices are used to administer life-saving medication to people suffering severe and life-threatening reactions.
The Food and Drug Administration is warning patients and healthcare professionals that brand name and generic auto-injectors are at risk of malfunction.
Manufacturer Pfizer says the devices can activate prematurely if a safety cap is raised or improperly removed. In other cases, the auto-injectors may not slide out of their cases due to imperfections.
Patients should contact Mylan Customer Relations at 800-796-9526 if they find an issue with their auto-injector and to obtain a replacement at no additional cost. Problems should also be reported to the FDA, here.
