Germaphobes might want to think twice before shaking the hand of Fox & Friends' Pete Hegseth.

Called out on-air Sunday for eating day-old pizza that was left on set, Hegseth said he doesn't worry about getting sick because "germs are not a real thing."

Hegseth then made a wilder revelation, announcing, "I don't think I've washed my hands for 10 years. Really, I don't really wash my hands ever."

And why does Hegseth believe he's immune to germs? "I can't see them. Therefore, they're not real," he told his co-host.

When even @chrislhayes can see the obvious...Twitter really has come full circle. https://t.co/o1dPPaWEhS

After "ridiculous" reaction on Twitter, Hegseth says "germ-obsessors" need to "lighten up."

To paraphrase the President from an hour ago:The Media is so self righteous and ANGRY! Loosen up and have some fun. The Country is doing well (as is my health!)P.S. I also support drinking from garden hoses & riding bikes w/o a helmet. Cue outrage...https://t.co/BubsAwBtFx

Hegseth says it should have been obvious that he was joking.

"We’re on a show and we have fun and we banter and I’m like, eh, you know, maybe I haven’t washed my hands for 10 years," he told USA TODAY. "If you look at Ed and Jedediah’s reaction, they are laughing like we are (on) every show."
