GODFREY, Ill. (KMOX) — A Godfrey firefighter battling a house fire in Bethalto has died.

The Godfrey Fire Protection District was one of several agencies helping at a burning home on Culp Lane late Tuesday afternoon. A portion of that brick building collapsed, injuring four firefighters.

Godfrey Fire Captain Jake Ringering was killed -- another firefighter was airlifted to a St. Louis hospital where he's listed as stable.

The other two firefighters, who haven't yet been identified, were treated and released.
