GRANITE CITY, Ill. (KMOX) - Granite City Police are warning residents and drivers to stay off roads in the area after flash flooding, Monday morning. Many vehicles are already stuck on the flooded roads, but police say unless it's an emergency, they will wait until the flooding goes down before responding.

According to our partner meteorologist Steve Templeton of KMOV, 6-inches of rain has already fallen in the area.

The National Weather Service in St. Louis says a flash flood warning is in effect for Granite City until 9:15 a.m., but the warnings continue east through at least 10:15 a.m.

Local media is reporting many Metro East drivers are getting stuck in the water on flooded roads this morning:

ATTN: This is exactly WHY we say turn around, don't drownNo matter how high/low you think the flooded road is, & whether or not you can make it, YOU NEVER KNOW. This is what we don't want to see.
