Lockdown on Holt High School lifted after social media threat

(KMOX) -  Holt High School in the Wentzville School District is on lockdown Tuesday morning, following a social media threat. 

A spokesperson for the district says a group of students at Holt received a message warning them to avoid the hallways at a specific time and to leave the school. 

At 11:44 a.m, the district tweeted that the lockdown has been lifted after the building had been swept with canine assistance.

At 11:19 a.m. the district tweeted that the building has been swept with the help of a canine and police are confident the building is clear and safe, however, the lockdown remains in effect.

Investigators were trying to determine the source of the message. The school district says no one is being evacuated from the school and parents should not come to the school to pick up their children.

Holt High School remains on lockdown. Police are working through interviewing students and searching the school. A staging area has been set up at Heartland Park for parents as students are not being permitted to leave the building until police give the all clear. #WSDsafetyALERT

The district posted a message on Twitter at 9:40 a.m. to alert parents about a "social media threat" that police are investigating.
