(KMOX) — Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker has signed legislation expanding insurance coverage for certain treatments.
One new law requires insurance companies to cover office visits and treatment for tick-borne diseases like Lyme Disease. The second requires coverage of EpiPens for children with severe allergies. Pritzker says the cost of an EpiPen has increased by more than 400% over the last decade.
"To a child who cannot afford an EpiPen, one peanut, one bee sting, one exposure to latex can mean anaphylactic shock and potentially death — that's unconscionable," Pritzker said.
The governor claims there are two children in every classroom who have some type of food allergy.
