NHL analyst Jeremy Roenick interviewed Wainwright about St. Louis' sports culture

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - One Nation. That's how these last few years the city of St. Louis has been viewed. The parallel between Cardinals and Blues fans. But now rather than Blues players and fans rooting on the Cards in June, it's the other way around.

On the eve of the first Stanley Cup Final game in St. Louis since 1970, longtime NHLer turned broadcaster, Jeremy Roenick interviewed future Cardinals Hall of Famer Adam Wainwirght about what the Stanley Cup Final means to the city of St. Louis.

"Everything," with a grin on his face, said Waino and then followed it up with a "Let's. Go. Blues!"

"I've seen Cardinal players over at the game in the last round. After a rain out, both Yadi and Waino were in attendance for that game against the San Jose Sharks. It's huge," said Roenick.

But it's not just the hockey aspect, it's the city aspect. The negative narrative surrounding this city has been the definition for the last few years. Ferguson riots, NFL leaving, city turning down MLS. Now, let's re-examine that narrative. Local ownership forcing MLS to come to St. Louis, expansion and excitement in downtown, and over 100,000 expected to attend the Stanley Cup Final experience over the weekend. Roenick thought the same thing.

"I think a lot of people don't understand the sports passion here in St. Louis," Roenick says. "The Cardinals have always been a championship culture but now the Blues are on the brink of breaking down that door."
