Late President H. W. Bush's service dog 'Sully' gets a new job helping veterans

Sully the service dog isn't receiving his gold watch just yet. The companion of late President George H.W. Bush is taking on a new job.

The 2-year-old yellow Lab will spend his days at Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, helping "provide support, comfort and cheer to wounded veterans."


Named for Miracle on the Hudson pilot Chesley "Sully" Sullenberger III, the K-9 Sully was given a new vest and the rank of a Navy hospital corpsman second class.

In a ceremony streamed on Facebook, Sully was administered the oath of office, asking that he serve his duty "without any promise of treats or tummy rubs."
