EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. (KMOX) - If you’re driving in eastern Illinois today, you might see about two dozen police officers riding bicycles. They're riding from here to Washington D.C., with the hope of raising $1 million for the C.O.P.S. Kids Camp, which supports families and especially children, who's parents are killed in the line of duty.

KMOX’s Brian Kelly was in Edwardsville this morning when the Law Enforcement United's FLETC Long Ride team began its more than 1,200-mile trek to the nation’s capital.

The team is comprised of federal, state and local law enforcement officers from 12 different states and they plan to arrive in Washington on May 12.

But they won't be riding straight through, as LEU's national president Wallace Chadwick explained.

"These LEU riders will average 115 miles each day on their 11 day journey and host over three dozen memorial services at various sheriff and police departments on their route to honor those officers who died in the line of duty," Chadwick says.
