ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - St. Louis will likely extend its COVID-19 restrictions beyond next Wednesday.
"At this point in time, that April 22nd date would likely not even be before the peak," St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson explained to KMOX's Charlie Brennan and Amy Marxkors, "so I think we're looking at a few more weeks of a stay at home order."

Krewson says the measures people have been taking appear to have helped. She stresses residents can't let up now or will risk putting too great a burden on health care resources.
"We are expecting a surge of somewhere between 1,500 and 3,000 (COVID-19 cases), so the 3,000 number will really tax the hospital capacity, but we think it will hold," Kewson says.
As of Monday, Krewson says 700 city residents were hospitalized for coronavirus. On Monday, the St. Louis pandemic task force announced that 43 coronavirus patients were discharged.
When asked, Krewson says she has no intention of closing any of the city's 109 parks. She says residents in densely populated areas need the green space.
