ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — As the fifth anniversary since the death of Michael Brown in Ferguson approaches, his father, Michael Brown Sr. is expected to call for St. Louis County prosecutor Wesley Bell to reopen the investigation.
Brown Sr. says he's met in recent weeks with Bell, and says Bell told him he has a team reviewing the evidence in the police shooting.
"Definitely Mr. Bell and I are good friends and I definitely want him to know this is not a task," Brown Sr. says. "I just want him to look at if he can put a rush on looking at the evidence or the team that he's suppose to have looking at the evidence and give the public an announcement."
The 18-year-old was shot and killed on Aug. 9, 2014 by former Ferguson Police Officer Darren Wilson. The shooting led to weeks of protests that amplified following the grand jury's decision to not indict Wilson.
A local grand jury under former county prosecutor Bob McCulluch issued no charges against the Ferguson offficer and a U.S. Department of Justice probe also issued no charges.
A news conference is planned for 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 9, in front of the Justice Center in Clayton.
Also on Friday, a life-sized replica of Michael Brown will be unveiled for the five-year anniversary of his death. The art work will be part of an exhibit called "As I See You: A Tribute to Mike Brown Jr.,” which opens August 9-11 at the Urban League’s Ferguson Empowerment Center.
