JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) — Missouri's Lieutenant Governor Mike Kehoe recommends bringing back Missouri tax credits to lure movie makers back to the state.
KMOX legal expert Attorney Brad Young says, while there's pros and cons, these credits can be very lucrative for a state.
"Production companies come in, they're in town for a long time, and it generates a lot of revenue," he told KMOX's Maria Keena. "So if we want to generate that kind of economic activity, we need to bring those tax credits back."
Shows like Netflix's "Ozark" are set in Missouri, but are often shot elsewhere. Young says the reality is, movies will not be made in Missouri unless there's some incentive.
Yesterday, a report came out showing Missouri revenues down about seven percent compared to last year.
Legislative budgeters are banking on making up much of the shortfall, as more people file their taxes.
