(KMOX) - Special Olympics Missouri (SOMO) has cancelled its annual State Summer Games that were scheduled for this weekend due to tornado damage at the program's headquarters in Jefferson City. But the community is rallying at the Training for Life Campus and more than 100 volunteers are at work to fix the damage.
A message about the cancellation has been posted on SOMO.org:
"As you’ve probably heard, a tornado moved through Jefferson City on May 22. All staff are safe. Unfortunately, the Training for Life Campus was hit and suffered damage. All operations at the building have been suspended. Staff may be reached by email and/or cell phones. You may also call our KC Metro office at 816.535.9610. State Summer Games scheduled for May 31-June 2 have been cancelled. Watch this video with Gary Wilbers, SOMO board chairman, to understand the extent of the damage and why the decision was made to cancel Summer Games.
