ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The racing world is mourning the loss of St. Louisan Mike Mittler.

His MB Motorsports crew fielded an entry in every NASCAR Truck Series season until he became sick with cancer in the past year.

Well said Kenny. He helped me get to where I’m at today like he selflessly did for so many others in Motorsports today.I was planning to go see him tomorrow morning in his house in St. Louis. So sad to not get to say goodbye. https://t.co/8TtnYY72Fc

Mittler also made friends throughout racing with his Mittler Brothers Machine and Tool business.

Retired NASCAR driver Kenny Wallace considered him a close friend, "When we started racing and we couldn't get something fixed, everybody in the midwest would say to call Mike Mittler, he can fix it. If we broke a bolt off or something else broke, it was always time to call Mike Mittler."

KMOX Auto Show host Greg Damon recalls Mittler's appearances on the radio, "(He was) Just a phenomenal guy and had such a wealth of knowledge about what it took to make it in racing and what needed to be done. He was always giving expert analysis."

Damon says Mittler made friends everywhere he went, including with his son Nick when Nick was a Cub Scout, "Mike had us come out to his race shop and showed my son how to operate the milling machine, and really helped him tune his car and get it ready for the Pinewood Derby. That's just the kind of guy Mike was. He was the kind of guy who would help anybody."

Lost a dear friend today. Mike Mittler gave me my first big break in NASCAR. He loved racing as much or more than anyone I have ever been around. I will always cherish the time I spent racing for Mike and his wife Bev. pic.twitter.com/0wpmJ74wKI
