
ALTON, IL (KMOX)-An Alton police officer is in stable condition at a St. Louis hospital with a fractured leg after he was hit by a hit and run vehicle early Saturday morning.
Police Chief Jake Simmons tells KMOX the officer was hit while setting up spike strips to stop the car, that had run another car off the road while drag racing on Oakwood near Alton Square Mall Drive at about 1:40 A.M.. He was hit on Washington Ave in Alton.
Police chased the car across the Clark bridge into Missouri. The two occupants bailed after spike strips flattened a tire at 367 and Parker Rd. At last report, they are still at large.
