Brewery collectibles club founded in St. Louis turns 50

FENTON, MO (KMOX)-If you've ever collected beer cans or other brewery-related items, you'll want to circle September 10, 11 and 12 on your calendar. Those are the dates for the 50th annual BCCA Canvention at America's Center in St. Louis.

But with the rise of canned craft beers, Kious says it's fun to collect again. "It's really exploded over the last four or five years," he says. "I don't even know where they come up with some of the designs. There are so many cans, they have to come up with a unique name and so you can build your name design around the name of the beer. It's just unbelievable."

Kious says beer cans, which he calls "little 12-ounce works of art", aren't worth a lot of money, unless they came out before 1970. However, one collector sold a Gibbons Bock cone top from the 1930's for $30,000! He says some collectors have tens of thousands of cans. One in the Phildalephia area has his collection in two houses!
