COLLINSVILLE (KMOX) -- The marijuana business is booming in Illinois -- the St. Louis area's only recreational dispensary is starting a shuttle service Tuesday.Parking is no longer allowed on Executive Drive -- Illinois Supply and Provisions in Collinsville is leasing more than 200 parking spaces from Zapata's Mexican Restaurant and Gateway Fun Center, both of which are within a few blocks of the dispensary. Free shuttles will run to and from those lots all day every 10 to 15 minutes Tuesday through Sunday.Mondays are still reserved for medical patients -- no recreational product is being sold Mondays. The state sold more than $39 million worth of legal recreational marijuana in January, including more than $10 million in the first five days. The governor's Senior Advisor for Cannabis Control, Toi Hutchinson, says about $8 million in sales came from out of state."People want a safe, legally tested place to go purchase legally," Hutchinson says. "I think [everybody] was really trying to participate in the historic end of prohibition January 1, 2020 and the demand has stayed consistent."© 2020 KMOX (Entercom). All rights reserved.
