Coronavirus Facts Only: Remdesivir test results show it's saving lives

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - SLU Care's Dr. Sarah George, infectious diseases specialist and principal investigator of the study underway at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital -- and Dr. Fred Buckhold, a SLU Care general internist at SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital.

Dr. George says this is the first randomized, placebo-controlled trial of the I-V drug Remdesivir.  She calls the early findings good news.

The drug has proven that it can block the coronavirus from replicating.

When compared to a placebo, the drug shortened hospitalized patients' recovery time from 15 to 11 days and lowered mortality from 11 to 8 percent in patients who received it.

Now, Dr. George says they are looking at adding another medication to Remdesivir to see if that combo can prompt an even better response.
