ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The City Treasurer in St. Louis is concerned about hackers getting into the computer system that runs the city's parking division. Tishaura Jones says it hasn't happened yet, but she's taking steps to insure against a cyberattack on her computers.
"We collect credit cards obviously and that is very sensitive information," Jones says. "So we are making sure we are protected should an event ever occur. But our network is very safe."
Jones office says they do not store credit card numbers of customers.
But she is planning to spend almost $8,000 this year for cyber insurance to cover things including ransomware attacks. Eventually, she wants to set up a long-range contract to lower the cost.
She says other city's have been hacked before and she wants to avoid that.
