Deal to privatize Lambert Airport is dead

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Privatization of St. Louis Lambert International Airport isn't going to happen and UMSL science professor Dean Robertson says St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson didn't have much of a choice.

"I think the mayor bowed to that growing opposition and there were a lot of questions that seemed unanswered," Robertson says.

In St. Charles County, executive Steve Ehlmann says now the focus has to shift to improving service at Lambert for everyone.

"Anything we can do to get those landing fees down, anything we can do to get more flights, especially international flights, would really help those that are working on economic development in this region trying to attract new businesses and new people to the region," Ehlmann says.

Advocates of the deal felt it could have brought in new revenue to the city. Opponents blasted the political and private stakeholders for not being transparent during the process.
