Police catch driver with license plate tags that expired 22 years ago

(KMOX) - A Louisiana driver is facing a boatload of fines after an officer discovered his license plate tag had expired – 22 years ago.

The unidentified Slidell resident's tags expired in September 1997, according to a Slidell Police Department report. The department shared a photo on its Facebook page:

When asked about the expired tags, police say the driver told them, "Sorry, officer. I’ve been busy lately and totally forgot to renew my vehicle registration. I will take care of it as soon as I get home!"

This is one that's going to drive our Charlie Brennan insane...

I took this photo and a woman came running out of Maurizio’s Pizza asking, “Why are you taking a photo of my car?” I replied, “Because your plates are expired.” She laughed. #expiredtags pic.twitter.com/sdnrjjVg7c

Yesterday at Union Station. Will red light cameras be able to pick up the vin #? Will they also send a fine for the #expiredtag? pic.twitter.com/SzBFEbWIDZ
