Page: Father, sister of COVID-19 patient violated self quarantine

Most of the audio is off mic and may be difficult to hear.CLAYTON (KMOX) -- Two family members of the St. Louis County woman who tested positive for COVID-19 violated a self quarantine and attended a father-daughter dance at the Ritz-Carlton Saturday.

Page says the Ritz will follow its own procedures and communicate with the health department -- it's so far unclear what those procedures are, emails and phone calls to Marriott International -- the parent company of the Ritz-Carlton -- have so far not been returned.

Page couldn't say how many people were at the dance, nor could he say how long the two were at the dance.Page says the county isn't recommending schools or businesses close, but Villa Duchesne and Oak Hill School will be closed Monday.“We are communicating with the St. Louis County Department of Public Health and sharing everything that we know with them. We will work with officials to ensure we are doing everything possible to mitigate risk and to maintain our safe environment,” said Alice Dickherber, Villa Duchesne's Director of Communications and Marketing. “We are committed to the health and safety of our community and we will follow the guidance of public health officials as we plan for the coming days.”

The CDC says COVID-19, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 novel coronavirus first detected in Wuhan, China in late December, is spread person to person. Typically that happens when you're within six feet of someone exhibiting symptoms for an extended period of time, which is why many of the cases reported so far are couples, people who live in close quarters with one another and healthcare workers.There's so far not a lot of information about whether people who aren't experiencing symptoms can also spread the virus. Neither the St. Louis County woman's father nor her sister are symptomatic and there isn't a reliable test for people who are asymptomatic at this time.
