Missouri's first food truck garden getting closer to opening in St. Louis County

AFFTON, Mo (KMOX) - Excitement is building in Affton as Missouri's first food truck garden nears completion.

Managing Partner Brian Hardesty is hoping 9 Mile Garden will open in late May, but an exact date hasn't been set yet. He tells KMOX the garden on Gravois between McKenzie and Weber Roads, will not just be a place to eat from food trucks, but a family-friendly gathering place. "Our hope is that this is successful for the community and we can bring something new that  nobody would think to bring to Affton."

9 Mile Garden will have 30 food trucks for lunch and dinner, an on-site tap house featuring local beers and cocktails, a movie screen and music stage.

"We'll have a different lineup of trucks every day," says Hardesty. "That'll be the anchor and draw for everyone to come out and have a brand new selection of food."

He says the movie screen will show movies from the '80s and '90s and they'll have live music at least once a week. The Garden will also be available for private events.

"We'll also do a lot of outdoor games and special events of any kind. Anything from a flea market to a car show to having the Girl Scouts out to put on an event. Anything you can think of, really community driven."

Hardesty, who has operated Guerilla Street Food for about nine years, says he got approached by his partners over a year ago to build a food truck park. He told them he had already been working on it for a few years and once he lined up his partners, it was a done deal.

He says it's called 9 Mile Garden because it's nine miles from the center of St. Louis.
