ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - For most of us, FaceTime and even telehealth is about convenience. But for seniors during the pandemic, video chat can be a world changer.
The St. Louis VA is trying new technology that turns TVs into an interactive platform for not just seeing the doctor, but socializing.
"Their population, the veterans, tend to be mostly from rural settings, are isolated, very lonely, and their mental health issues are hyperindexed for this population. They are very keen to deploy a technology that has been shown to engage this particular population," says Bio STL's Vijay Chauhan
The tech comes from Israel and a start-up called Uniper Care. The first trial is happening in St. Louis.
Chauhan says this was a connection forged between the VA and Uniper during the annual Global STL Health Innovation summit.
