JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KMOX) — Gov. Mike Parson says he doesn't have any plans to ban e-cigarette sales in Missouri but does want a public awareness campaign to discourage vaping.

In a press conference on Tuesday, Parson was asked if there needs to be a crack-down on illegal vape cartridges, like those with THC.

"I think we're going to take a real serious look at that, but again, I think some of the other things we're going to have to do is go through the legislative process so they're going to have to be a part of the solution. So that's going to be a topic I would say, I hope will be a priority with legislators this year," Parson said.

As Governor, our future generation is very important to me. Despite the laws currently in place, there has been a rapid increase in vaping among our youth. It is critical we take action to protect the health and well-being of Missouri’s youth.

He ordered the public awareness campaign to launch in 30 days.

There've been 1,300 lung illnesses reported nationwide connected to vaping, and 26 deaths. In Missouri, the numbers are about two dozen illnesses and one death.
