ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — You could be fined $100 for having a gun in St. Louis city parks under a bill just introduced by Alderwoman Cara Spencer.
"We've seen unprecedented levels of violence here in our city as of recently, and not only violence — but violence against children. You know, we've had 13 kids killed this year, and we need safe places for our families and for our kids that are gun-free," Spencer said.
Spencer says because the parks department offers so many activities for children, the parks qualify as "childcare facilities" where guns can be banned under state law.
She says police wouldn't frisk people randomly, but if they see someone "openly carrying" a gun in city parks, they would issue a summons similar to a parking ticket.
