CREVE COEUR, Mo. (KMOX) — We could find out Monday night if a Creve Coeur woman will be allowed to keep any of her three emotional support monkeys.
The City Council has two ordinances on the meeting agenda for first readings - one would allow Texanne McBride to keep one of the monkeys. She'd have to get rid of one of them within 90 days and another one within six months.
If that doesn't pass, the council will take up the second ordinance, which gives her 90 days to find a suitable placement for all three.
McBride is due in municipal court on Nov. 6 after being ticketed for violating Creve Coeur's ordinance prohibiting such animals. Her attorneys say she should be able to keep the primates under the Fair Housing Act.
Both ordinances ban McBride from allowing the monkeys outside unless in a zoning administrator approved cage in the back yard of her leased home and require her to post signs on all doors stating how many non-human primates are inside and carry $1 million in renter's insurance.
