Missouri History Museum needs your help to tell the story of 'COVID-19 in St. Louis'

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Disasters make history and years from now, people just may be walking through a "COVID-19 in St. Louis" exhibit at the Missouri History Museum. In fact, the museum is calling on people to document how they've dealt with and experienced this pandemic.

"We would love to hear how St. Louisans, whether you're on the front lines working in a hospital or a medical facility or a mom trying to figure out how to homeschool her kids, we would love to hear any and all reflections of how you're dealing with this very interesting and unique moment in history," says Angie Dietz, director of digital initiatives for the Missouri Historical Society.

They'll take essays, photos, videos, audio or scans of documents. Even diary entries.

"We'd love a story because that's really the heart of this project," says Dietz. "We'd love to hear about these experiences firsthand. If you have a photo or video that you'd like to share that helps tell the story, we'd invite you to share that as well."

"In my opinion, the best resources for future historians will be the diaries and journals that people of all ages in the St. Louis metropolitan area keep now as they are living through this present crisis."Why we need YOU to start writing: https://t.co/xC0YMKGSuM pic.twitter.com/AaYQFTyRAl

From the serious to the silly to the surreal, they'll take it all.

A digital archive is an informal collection of community contributions that Missouri History Museum will share online and on social media. Later, as the museum reopens, they'll take a longer look and decide what becomes part of the permanent collection.
