FRANKLIN COUNTY, Mo (KMOX) - In Franklin County, Interstate 44 is closed in both directions due to an accident involving two tractor trailers. The accident occurred just before 2 p.m. on eastbound I-44 past Route AF/MO 185 S.
The Missouri Department of Transportation estimates the stretch of interstate will be closed for at least four and a half hours.
A KMOX listener called to say she has seen three ambulances and a helicopter in the area. Missouri Highway Patrol Corporal Dallas Thompson tells KMOX the wreckage is in the median. the first calls came out as hazmat and a fire.
One of the tractor trailer's cab was on fire but that is out. The Highway Patrol does not have specifics on the number of injuries.
