LISTEN: Maria Keena's love for hummus interrupts traffic report

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — KMOX is St. Louis' traffic station — we provide traffic updates at the top of the hour weekdays, and every 10 minutes during morning and afternoon drive.

Traffic is a serious business ... but it doesn't always mean we take ourselves seriously.

In the newsroom, we've been implementing a program called Slack that's designed to make intra-office communication easier. But it's new ... so we haven't quite worked out the kinks.

Slack notifies you when there's a message or item that needs your attention. You can choose from a variety of dings, bells and alerts — and a woman saying the word "hummus."

We're not sure why that's an option. I mean, it's pretty fun, I guess.

KMOX's Maria Keena, who provides traffic updates from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on KMOX, couldn't be happier.

"I love hummus," she told KMOX's Alex Degman.

Keena also sometimes forgets to turn down her computer when giving a traffic update.

"I looked at my computer right away and thought ... 'Oh my, I hope nobody heard that.' But there was nothing I could do about it!"

Viola.

Keena is a fan of Sabra hummus, by the way.
