ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - On Monday afternoon on KMOX, two of our very recognizable voices that have been broadcasting on the same radio station for years together had a very open, honest and somewhat uncomfortable conversation about race, protesting, police and the historic moments happening right now in our country.

Take a listen to that conversation in the audio below and read what they say when reflecting on what was said.

Mark Reardon:

Carol and I have had many discussions on race over the years---and quite candidly we've clashed in certain areas. Having said that those conversations have made me better informed with a perspective that is impossible for me to have on my own.

We seem to hear from both extremes in politics and hot issues like race. Not unlike on-air conversations I've had with Mike Claiborne, these are conversations that can be rational, compassionate and that make an impact. They can happen---and I'd like to believe they happen more often than we might expect.

Carol Daniel:

These aren't the first moments in our history as a nation that we have been moved to ask hard questions and examine ourselves.  It's in my DNA to want to elevate the discourse and educate and heal when and where I can. Any opportunity to do so, even when it's uncomfortable and especially when we don't agree, is a blessing.

However, that doesn't mean it's easy for me to talk about the racism and prejudice that I have experienced or my concerns about how my husband and our two sons navigate a country that may see them as a threat or less worthy. They mean everything to me so I'm willing to share.
