ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A majority of St. Louis County Parks and trails are reopening on Tuesday, announced St. Louis County Executive Sam Page.
Page says the larger parks with trails will be reopened and smaller parks that feature mainly playgrounds will remain closed.
Most loop trails will be converted to one-way trails, the others will remain two-directional and there will be electronic message boards and signs directing visitors to help them least 6 feet apart.
Initially, park rangers will be helping St. Louis County Park staff as ambassadors, to remind everyone of social distancing. Park restrooms, dog parks, indoor facilities, sports, shelters, playgrounds, skate parks and the Creve Coeur Park Soccer complex will all remain closed.
Lone Elk Park will only be open to drive-thru traffic.
All programs, activities and rentals are canceled through at least May 15.
In early April, all county parks were closed due to overcrowding amid the coronavirus pandemic. The City of St. Louis has not closed its parks, but vehicle traffic in all city parks has been restricted, except for some roads in Forest Park.
