ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - COVID-19 isn’t going to stop some farmers markets from opening in Missouri, but it will change the experience.
Debi Kelly is a Horticulture Field Specialist with the University of Missouri Extension office in Jefferson County. She said two of the four farmers markets in Jefferson County are submitting plans to the Health Department for approval so they can open.
Kelly said farmers markets will take similar precautions as grocery stores. She said, if you go to a farmers market just follow the directions, there will be handwashing stations and most likely just one entry and exit point.
To make shopping faster many farmers will have preorder forms on their websites so you can place your order ahead of time.
Kelly said although it won't be the community experience with entertainment, music and kid's activities that we're used to, it will get the farm fresh food on your table and keep our farmers in business.
The Kirkwood farmers market opened over the weekend, with requests that all customers wear masks, use hand sanitizer before entering and keep a safe distance from others.
