JEFFERSON CITY (KMOX) - St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield and Columbia are all under stay-at-home orders.So, too, are various counties surrounding St. Louis -- St. Louis County, St. Charles, Jefferson and Franklin -- plus all the Metro East counties that are under Illinois' blanket order. Smaller counties in Missouri with few or no COVID-19 cases -- like St. Francois -- are also starting to issue their own.

Missouri Gov. Mike Parson, during his daily briefing on Thursday, hinted it's a possibility."When we did that order, we said we would evaluate that and the end of that order, that time is coming," Parson said, referring to the initial ban on gatherings larger than ten people. "We're in the process of doing that. Tomorrow (Friday), I hope to give you some more details on that."


Parson also says it's difficult to issue a blanket order for a state as diverse as Missouri."Every segment of the state is different," Parson says. "When you start looking at the exceptions that you're gonna do, what the essential business are there, because they differ whether you're in a rural area or a big urban area."The state now reports 1,834 positive cases of COVID-19 -- a jump of 250 since Wednesday. 19 people have died.Locally, St. Louis City is now reporting 270 cases, St. Louis County is reporting 663 with 6 deaths.St. Charles County now confirms 129 positive cases, including another death at Frontier Health and Rehabilitation -- that brings the total number of deaths there to 6.Franklin County reports 24 cases. Jefferson County is reporting its first death, a woman in her 80s. The county has 54 cases overall. Officials there also say their state of emergency is extended until further notice, it was due to expire on April 13. The closure of bar and restaurant dining rooms will also continue, it was due to expire this Saturday. That order is also extended until further notice.© 2020 KMOX (Entercom). All rights reserved.
