Major road construction happening in 2020 on I-64 for new stadium, I-44 at Meramac River

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — MoDOT has plans for I-44 and I-64 in 2020.

They include removing some of the existing ramps at I-64 and 22nd Street and the re-building of the Jefferson Interchange.

Assistant District Engineer Tom Evers tells KMOX this will improve access to the NGA site and eliminate some confusion at the same time.

I-44 will see paving work from downtown to the Crawford County line. Much of the work will be done at night, but Evers says traffic after St. Louis Cardinals game will likely be affected.

He says there's separate contractors on that project.

Then there's the Meramac River Bridge.

"The new westbound bridge is being built now," Evers says. "We're going to switch all the traffic on eastbound over to the westbound bridge. That's so we can build the new eastbound bridge next year."

That changeover will happen either late this year or early next year.
