ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - The rules, recommendations and procedures at local grocery stores are starting to change almost daily amid the coronavirus pandemic. The latest is that Schnucks will no longer allow customers to bring reusable bags into its stores.

This comes after another grocery worker tested positive for COVID-19, this time at the Ladue Schnucks. Other employees who have had the virus were at the University City Schnucks and at Dierbergs stores in Des Peres, Brentwood and Warson Woods.

"While there are no known cases of the virus being spread through the use of reusable bags, we are taking this extra step as a precautionary measure. Thank you for allowing us to bag your groceries in our paper or plastic bags during this time," Schnucks stated.

The Union who represents nearly 10,000 workers in the area is asking Gov. Parson to require customers in grocery stores and other retail businesses to wear a mask that covers their nose and mouth at all times.

The CDC, St. Louis County and St. Louis City, have all advised people to wear masks when shopping and Schnucks has asked for its shoppers to follow those guidelines but has not made it mandatory.

All Schnucks and Dierbergs stores will be closed for Easter, this Sunday, April 12. The stores says they want to allow its workers to be with their families.

Both companies will reopen stores at noon on Monday.
