ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A charity out of New York is helping the family of slain St. Louis Police Officer Tamarris Bohannon's family, by paying the mortgage on their home.

The Tunnel to Towers Foundation was founded in honor of a firefighter killed on 9/11. Backstoppers Executive Director Ron Battelle appreciates the organization's generosity.

"It just tells you about what's going on throughout the nation now in terms of what the police are being subjected to and the risk of the job and the danger of the job," Battelle says.

He says the contribution will help his organization focus on other ways to help the family and make them debt-free.

"We'll put all three of the Bohannon kids through college if they so desire. We'll cover those expenses," Battelle says. "We pay off other debt they have, you know credit cards, car loans, things like that."
