Henry Armstrong, the only boxer to hold three championship titles simultaneously, trained at the old Slaughter Athletic Club, 4145 W. Belle Place. Armstrong held titles in featherweight, lightweight and welterweight divisions from 1936-1938. He also set a record for the longest series of knockouts. ESPN ranked Armstrong the third greatest boxer of all time, only trailing Muhammed Ali and Sugar Ray Robinson.
