John Elroy Sanford

John Elroy Sanford was born at 4400 Enright on December 9, 1922.  He later lived on the 2900 block of Bell Avenue in the late 1920s. Using the name Redd Fox, he developed a groundbreaking comic style on stage and recorded scores of albums.  Foxx attended the Banneker School, 2840 Lucas Ave., around 1930.  He later starred in TV shows on all three networks, including the hit Sanford and Sons.   In 1973, parts of Spring Avenue were renamed Redd Foxx Lane.
