Local schools to announce reopening plans Monday

ST. LOUIS (KMOX)-Monday's the day most local school districts will announce their plans for resuming classes for the fall semester, subject to change.

As KMOX told you last week, most districts will propose a hybrid schedule, here some students go to school Monday and Wednesday, others go Tuesday and Thursday, the days they're not in class they'll learn online.

Education Plus CEO Dr.Paul Ziegler says the days they do go to class, will be adjusted to minimize contact between students. "You might see our elective classes such as art, music, P-E., actually come to classroom as opposed to having students move to those areas," he says. "You might see students eating lunch in a classroom or maybe restricted cafeteria access."

Ziegler tells Total Information AM Sunday that whatever plans are announced Monday could change based on the number of covid cases as we get closer to the first day of classes. "We have to get something for people to begin to give us some feedback on that. And truly, we're going to have to really watch what our data is telling us here in St. Louis and right now it's not good."

He says data, not politics will decide what eventually happens. "Every superintendent, principal, teacher, staff member across the region really wants to have kids back, but we also realize that the only way to do that is to make sure we're doing that is in a safe manner.

"Somebody's not going to be happy with the plan that we devise," Ziegler says. "But, I hope that parents will share those concerns with their administrators and educational leaders, but support the plans with their children. Because, especially for some of our older students, they really need to understand the things we're putting in place are for their own safety and hopefully our parents will support that with their kids so that as we roll these plans out we can try to get kids back to school."
