September 19, 2019 Original KMOX reporting:
A heads up for Illinois drivers this weekend: Southbound I-255 is shutting down from 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, until 5 a.m. Monday, Sept. 23.
Illinois Department of Transportation Construction Engineer Joel Cumby told KMOX it will be closed in Collinsville at the I-55/70 interchange.
"That will remain closed then until just north of the I-64 interchange down near Caseyville," Cumby said. "All of your I-64 interchange ramps will remain open."
Northbound I-255 will remain open throughout the southbound closure. This is the second and last closure for this stretch of highway. The closure is necessary, according to IDOT, in order to make bridge repairs.
Metro East: Southbound Interstate 255 between I-55/70 and I-64 will close at 9 p.m. Friday for bridge repairs. The detour will utilize southbound I-55/70 to eastbound I-64 to I-255. The road is expected to reopen by 5 a.m. Sept. 23. More info: https://t.co/wbNFeKoO2N #ILtraffic pic.twitter.com/DaBj6f0IOF
