ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - A popular bar in downtown St. Louis is facing criticism on social media after videos were posted on Instagram showing jam-packed crowds on the dance floor this weekend.

Some Twitter users recorded the videos posted by "@Wheelhouse_nightlife" on Instagram and reshared them. One video with more than 24,000 views says, "Hey @WheelhouseSTL, we're in the middle of a pandemic. WTF is this?

Saint Louis University sociology and anthropology assistant professor Chris Prener tweeted: "We're making a choice here - these St Louis businesses are worth more than the lives of their patrons. Order them closed. Provide financial support for employees and owners."

We’re making a choice here - these #StLouis businesses are worth more than the lives of their patrons. Order them closed. Provide financial support for employees and owners. We don’t have to choose between businesses and lives, we’re just not willing to imagine an alternative. https://t.co/4M9hk2nlxX

Commenters are saying, "This is OUTRAGEOUS! Bars and dine-in restaurants need to close now until the positivity % is lowered."

Another says, "It's time to shut this city down again. These people, and all the other maskless folks out socializing, negated everything we accomplished with the first lockdown. If they can't play fair without intervention, it's on you guys to put an end to this."

Wheelhouse, located a few blocks from Busch Stadium, closed temporarily a month ago after a customer and two employees tested positive for coronavirus. The bar reopened on July 10.

The city currently has restrictions on bar capacity and requirements for social distancing and masks.

Mayor Lyda Krewson's spokesman Jacob Long confirms the videos have been sent to the health department to review for possible violations. She is expected to release information on bars and restaurants not complying with social distancing and masking on Monday.

Last week, several cease and desist orders were sent out to bars and nightclubs in the city, but some are still not complying and that has city officials concerned, according to Long.

Also on Monday, St. Louis County is expected to announce more restrictions – possibly on bars and restaurants – to slow the spread of the virus. County Executive Sam Page will make an announcement on "new restrictions (that) must be put in place to slow the community spread of this virus."
