ST. LOUIS (KMOX) - Fans have set a new Major League Soccer record in the first 24 hours of sales for deposits on St. Louis City SC season tickets.
On Thursday morning the team – set to begin its inaugural MLS campaign in 2023 – received 30,000 deposits within the first 15 minutes and 50,000 after the first 24 hours of season tickets being made available to the general public.
Those numbers represent the largest number of season ticket deposits in the history of Major League Soccer. The club's merchandise sales also previously set a new league record.
The team announced on Twitter Wednesday afternoon that a record had been set, but the total number of deposits hasn't been released yet. Sales opened at 10 a.m. Wednesday and fans were able to reserve up to 8 seats in the future soccer stadium that's being constructed in downtown St. Louis.
“I’m once again blown away by our fans, supporters and community, and how they continue to rally around City,” said Carolyn Kindle Betz, the club's owner and CEO, in a statement. “This is just another testament to why I love St. Louis so much. When given the opportunity, our region shows the rest of the nation why we’re a force to be reckoned with.”
