St. Louis City announces first positive COVID-19 case, St. Louis County announces its third

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) -- St. Louis City has its first confirmed case of COVID-19.Dr. Frederick Echols, director of the city's public health department, says the person is in their 20s and recently traveled from a country where there are a lot of cases -- though neither he nor the mayor would specify.

"The specimens were tested by the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services," Echols told reporters. "Around 5:15 [Monday>, we received notice that the specimens tested positive for COVID-19."Officials also won't specify where in the city the person lives citing privacy concerns.

Echols says the person self quarantined as soon as they started feeling ill and did everything right -- he's confident the person hasn't come in contact with anyone since falling ill."This particular case... they went directly from their car to get medical treatment to get tested, and they have stayed home ever since that time," Krewson added.
