Stuck in a midday slump? Experts say nap at work

ST. LOUIS (KMOX) — Many of us experience a midday crash during the workday.

Health experts are suggesting an easy fix to that: just take a nap.

"Twenty to 30 minutes is optimal," said Dr. Joe Ojile, founder of the Clayton Sleep Institute.

Ojile believes a midday nap would make most workers happier and more productive.

He told KMOX our ancestors made taking a midday "siesta" a part of our biology.

"We have a natural dip of wakefulness, increased sleepiness, in the midafternoon after lunch so getting a short siesta was very biologically appropriate."

While many employers may be reluctant to allow a midday siesta at work, some actually encourage it.

"They've been purchasing actually sleeping pods so that people can go into a quiet, cool room and take a short 15 to 30-minute nap and improve productivity during the day," he said.
